Treatments

Any of these treatments may be used in conjunction with Acupuncture, depending on the TCM diagnosis and needs of the patient.

Electro-Acupuncture

Electro-acupuncture treatment uses the application of small electrical currents to needles that have been inserted at specific acupuncture points to strengthen stimulation. Electro-acupuncture is used for a variety of pain disorders, neurological disorders, for muscle flaccidity and atrophy, bone fractures, analgesia, and more.

Cupping

Cupping therapy involves suction of the skin and superficial muscle layers into glass, plastic or silicone cups.  It stimulates the flow of Qi and blood in the affected area and helps to treat acute or chronic pain, musculoskeletal and respiratory imbalances.

The cups are placed on the skin and left for a period of 2 to 15 minutes.  Cups can also be moved along the skin with the aid of massage oil.

Cupping therapy is effective in relieving stiff muscles, back and neck pains, joint pain, headaches and migraines, fatigue and anxiety, and even cellulite. Patients experience mental and physical relaxation and improvement in their sense of well-being.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy. Its purpose is to treat and prevent diseases by promoting smooth flow of Qi and blood.  It involves burning a moxa stick close to the skin above the acupuncture point for a few minutes . Moxa sticks are made from mugwort (Atremisa Vulgaris), a commonly used herb in Chinese medicine. During the treatment the patient experiences a pleasant heating sensation deep into the skin.

Acupressure or Tui Na

Acupressure or Tui Na involves the stimulation of acupuncture points and meridians by applying manipulation techniques with fingers and hands. It promotes circulation of blood, stimulates the body’s immune system and its self-healing abilities. Tui Na is used to treat acute or chronic pain, musculoskeletal, as well as digestive, reproductive and respiratory disorders.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha treatment involves friction on the surface of the skin with a smooth-edged tool. Long or short pressured strokes are applied in the same direction to the lubricated surface of the body.  This treatment promotes circulation of Qi and blood and removes stagnation, stimulates immune protection, reduces inflammation, and relieves acute and chronic pain.

Ear Seeds

In this treatment, tiny Viccaria seeds are attached to the ear acupuncture points with clear tape. This type of treatment provides continuous stimulation of acupuncture point(s) for an extended period of time long after leaving the practitioner’s office. Ear seeds are beneficial for smoking cessation, weight loss, anxiety and depression.
